Here is a lil something about our artist Mona Bode in her own words. Growing up in the South Bronx,my family always kept the radio station dial on WBLS FM.Listening to Frankie Crocker every afternoon like many others within our scene.I remember this was during the hight of our era of THE FUNHOUSE and Bond's International when I used to enjoy tracks like "LOVE IS THE MESSAGE","RUNAWAY" and "DR. LOVE".I remember the first time I heard the track "DO U LOVE ME" BY LIL LOUIS,OOOWWEEE!! What an experience it was for me. I could'nt wait to hit the dance clubs!.The music always made me feel like I could just be me.A free spirit with no worries,just being me and one with the music. I've always written and loved spokenword.My favorite poet is Nikki Giovanni,she really inspired for me to write poetry.The the addition for the love of housemusic made me combine both writing poetry with music which added to my inspiration.I thought that perhaps maybe I can create a piece about my love of housemusic,add some words into my first love which is housemusic.I decided to name the song "MY FIRST LOVE".When you hear this track,at first you think the lyrics are about a guy but by the end of the track,you will know exactly what I'm talking about.Only a true housemusic head can understand what I'm saying within the lyrics.There is a favorite line of mine in the track that express "and think I might be happier over there aka (HIP HOP),"AND FOR A WHILE MAYBE"..."BUT YOU","YOU HAVE A WAY OF MAKING ME DESIRE YOU ALL OVER AGAIN".What a deep line if you feel what I'm saying.It's very deep and that is so true to me and others that feel the same way about our music and musical culture.Time and again,I always found myself going back and forth from house to hip-hop,R&B and even jazz music but I find myslef back to what I truly love,where I was comfortable,and that is with HOUSEMUSIC !.It will always be about the music,because HOUSEMUSIC is always on my mind.
